"The Return of the Kings of Pussy Rock!"
Formed in Seattle in 1995, The Action Suits while perhaps not the best band of the times, their legacy will always live on as more than a footnote in the hearts of comic aficionados and bubblegum pop lovers alike.
Perhaps most famous for having Peter Bagge of HATE fame as a member (banging the skins), The Action Suits went through various line-up changes during the later part of the 90s (At one point the band included cartoonist Jeremy Eaton, who played absolutely no instruments and didn't sing), Bagge, alledgedly the 'Brian Wilson' of the group stated that if anybody wanted to put out a record, he'd want to be in, otherwise he didn't want to play live gigs and the band finally split up.
While never under any big label, Bagge and Hate, being the pivotal person/publication he was during the Sub-Pop era, of course drawed the cover (as he also did for swedish rockers Nomads and Hellacopters, gooo Sweden!!!) for the first single and ta-da! - A band nobobys heard of before instantly sold 10,000 singles of a 7-inch 45rpm vinyl!!
The band briefly reformed in 2006 to record enough new songs to fill out a full length cd titled "The Action Suits" on Japanese label Presspop.
Here performing My Janeane, the B-side from their debut single 4-Track Mind/My Janeane, a slimy crush masterpiece (about a young ms Garofalo?) where singer Eric Reynolds adopts the role as the molester, all in classic 50s schholgirl pop tradition, he gets so down and dirty you might wanna think about taking a shower after listening..
So.. Fantastic music, perhaps even better album art.. Wanna know more about this young, hip and happening combo? Check them out - The Action Suits on Myspace
